Woah…QueenzEye is back with a new lineup! Damn, the face cards of these new members are impressive. “Feel the Vibe,” however, is…not as impressive.
Okay, it does have its moments. Wonchae’s first line was stunning: her voice rings clear as a bell, and using a long note as an opening is unconventional–and intriguing. In fact, I liked it so much I was pretty disappointed that they didn’t turn that long note into a motif and perhaps use it again in a post-chorus or bridge. Another stunning thing? The color palette of this M/V. Each scene felt like a meticulously crafted color wheel, with my favorite combo being those backstage scenes where dark magenta, neon pink, and denim blue were paired together.
But when it comes to their concept–my favorite thing to analyze? “Feel the Vibe” does not give me that vibe. Reading the lyrics, this song seemed to be intended as a hype-it-up-let’s-get-rowdy kind of song…but if so, QueenzEye really only finished half the assignment. The beach scenes and backstage scenes were pretty, but created too intimate a vibe for a song called “Feel the Vibe.” I felt like they needed a big party scene, with a big crowd and a DJ raising the roof, for a more compelling packaging of their concept.
